A Letter from the President: Rounding with Miracles

Read Time: 2 mins

Dear Kettering Family,

It’s Monday, and I just finished rounding with the team in surgery, pre-op, and post-op. The only word that comes to mind after spending the morning in the OR is “miraculous.” The dedication, passion, and commitment that our team embodies is truly remarkable.

From watching Dr. Merle perform a triple bypass surgery to observing Dr. Woods take out a cyst on the spine, Dr. Reid helping heal a cancer patient to Dr. Forester helping a woman walk again through knee replacement surgery, our team of surgeons and the clinicians that support them are second to none.

As I was talking with the teams in each of the ORs, I immediately got a sense that their commitment to our mission is alive and well. They know, firsthand, the sacredness of what they do and the impact it makes on our community.

Their deep desire to care for those in need and perform life-saving surgeries is so evident as they sahred story after story of the calling they feel to this truly sacred work.

At the same time, it was clear that we must evolve to be sure we’re taking care of the people who take care of people. All of us can do more to rally around one another and learn to find new and innovative ways to meet the needs of our community while never compromising that our most important strength is our employee and physician family.

As we work through this new age of health care, our number one priority must be quality. Quality in taking care of our staff and physicians, quality in patient care, and quality in our patients’ experiences. Kettering is a world-class organization and our reputation and the national awards we have won have been realized because of our amazing employees and physicians. Whether it’s in the OR, Cafeteria, Med/Surg, or any other department in this phenomenal hospital, it’s our employees and physicians who make the difference.

It was such a good reminder that once everything is stripped away, the real thing that matters most is our employee and physician family’s wellbeing and health so they can care for those in need.
