Dan works in the Emergency Department at Sycamore Medical Center registering patients. Recently, Dan took the time to try to reach the family of a patient in critical condition. When the patient was unable to provide any information, Dan called several numbers until he was able to reach the significant other, who identified the patient’s brothers and how to reach them.
Dan shared this information with other employees and hand delivered all of the contact names and numbers directly to the ICUE nurse who would be caring for the patient once the patient arrived to the ICUE. The nurse was able to reach the family in a very timely manner. Dan made it possible for the medical team to contact the patient’s family to make decisions about the directives of the patient’s care.
