Best Practice Alert (BPA) for COVID-19 Testing

There is now a BPA (Best Practice Advisory) that will fire in Epic when a COVID-19 test is ordered. This will fire upon picking the order. Please follow the instructions below when placing the order.

Workflow:

  • Upon picking the COVID-19 Order, the clinician will see the below BPA.
  • “Remove” will be auto defaulted, so if “Accept” is clicked, the order will come off their order list.
  • If they click “Keep”, the “Accept” button will be greyed out until they click the “Acknowledge Reason” and enter a comment.  The name of the IPC nurse they spoke with should be entered in the comment field.  They will then be able to click “Accept” and place the order.
