Blood Bank Temporary Process Change for Greene Memorial Emergency Department

Read Time: 1 min

The blood bank process serving patients in the emergency department at Kettering Greene Memorial Hospital will temporarily change to the process currently utilized by all free-standing emergency departments. This process is known as emergency release. Effective immediately, blood distribution to the ED for patients requiring blood product will receive Type O-positive or Type O-negative following the laboratory’s embedded process for emergency release. Par levels of blood products have increased to support patient stabilization until an appropriate transfer occurs.

The process of routine type and screens for inpatient transfusions will continue to be supported. Please note there may be time within a shift in which this service is performed at Greene by a Soin blood bank medical technician traveling to Greene. Lab has operationalized this process should this infrequent blood service be needed.
