Building the Future of Cancer Care

The network continues to make tremendous progress on the cancer center, with a new sky bridge connecting the facility with Kettering Medical Center. Once completed, the bridge will provide greater continuity of care between outpatient and inpatient care.

“The bridge across Southern Boulevard is a major milestone that we are very excited about,” says Bonnie Quinonez, director of the cancer center project. “We have begun closing walls on the fourth floor and framing both the first and fifth floors. You will start to see installation of exterior brick and stone work as well as window installation.”

The patient advisory council has also been busy assisting in decisions impacting how care is delivered in the new facility. This council is a group of cancer survivors, current cancer patients, and their family members that meets monthly with the oncology service line to determine services and processes to improve cancer care, ensuring the cancer center is designed for patients by patients.

During the May meeting, council members sampled foods being considered for the Cafe of Hope. Food choices were specifically created with high protein and antioxidants to meet the needs of patients being treated for cancer.

When asked why the network is building this center, Criswell Davis, a patient advisory council member, responded,” Because we aspire to provide our community with the very best cancer care in a thoughtfully considered healing space.”
