Changes in COVID Collection Swabs

Notification for all collectors of COVID PCR specimens: 

Swabs may look different after Friday, July 1, 2022, due to vendor supply changes. 

  • Swabs are dry.  
  • Uninoculated swabs are stored at room temperature. 
  • Source collection is still nasopharyngeal. 
  • Test ordering does not change. 
  • Testing method does not change.

  • COVPCRSwab shows differences between existing dry swabs and new dry swabs. 
  • RESPTEST.V2 is an updated respiratory testing tip-sheet that includes a visual of the new swab.
