Check Out Our Living the Mission Recipient

Read Time: 2 mins

The Living the Mission Award is given to people who bring the network’s mission to life, demonstrating the sacred work of improving the quality of life for people in the communities we serve. They use their own time and resources to transform lives, whether that’s at a network location or out in the community.

You can read the nomination story of the October Living the Mission recipient below. Congratulations to our recipient!

Kirstin Alexander – Surgery Access, Kettering Network Services

“Firstly, Kirstin has been amazing at helping me transition into my new role. Secondly, I have seen her do so many kind things for our patients. Just today, we had a patient who couldn’t get her COVID screening before her procedure due to a bleeding disorder. Kirstin made sure the patient could get tested outside of our network for the rapid COVID test which doesn’t go as far up the nose to cause potential bleeding problems. She reached out to the hospital to find the hours, the turnaround time of the test, and then walked the patient through the procedure. Kirstin also took this patient’s phone call each and every time the patient called our department. She made sure the patient had what she needed to have her procedure. Additionally, she arranged for another patient to get tested at a pharmacy downtown near the patient’s home. This patient was an add-on surgery for the next day due to the severity of the eye injury he had sustained. The patient obviously needed this surgery, and he didn’t drive or have the money for the COVID test. After many phone calls to the patient and multiple pharmacies, Kirstin offered to pay for the rapid COVID test. She also made sure that it was paid for before the patient even arrived for his screening. Kirstin and Sheila Manning then drove to Kettering Medical Center to personally meet the patient before his procedure the next morning. Because of Kirstin’s kindness and willingness to go beyond the extra mile, both patients will receive the care they need and deserve. She is absolutely living the mission of Kettering Health. Kirstin is an amazing person and huge asset to the network. I’m lucky to learn from one of the best!”
