Check Out Our March Living The Mission Recipient

Read Time: 2 mins

The Living the Mission Award is given to people who bring Kettering Health’s mission to life, demonstrating the sacred work of improving the quality of life for people in the communities we serve. They use their own time and resources to transform lives, whether that’s in one of our facilities or out in the community.

San Mulgund – Kettering Health Main Campus

“San is amazing! She has been a guardian angel to a member of our community who would have otherwise fallen through the cracks. Months ago, San met an older patient who lives alone with very limited social support. He had no next-of-kin in the country and had been struggling to get by for a while. He had downsized his home years ago, but still had many, many boxes to unpack. The boxes and clutter made it difficult for him to get around, make simple meals, and obtain clean clothes.

“Additionally, his advanced age made it difficult for him to problem solve; he could not go through his voicemail, sort his mail, or organize his items. Most importantly, he could not find a way to ask for the help he very much needed. San recognized this need. She used kindness and compassion to build rapport with her patient. She then took the big step to ask him if he needed help and she subsequently offered her assistance. He accepted!

“San has absolutely changed his life. She has recruited another amazing coworker of ours and they have made visits to this gentleman’s house nearly weekly for months. They have cleaned, brought him new clothes and household items, reached out to his family in another country, bought him a cell phone and trained him how to use it, and celebrated Christmas with him. In addition, San located his power of attorney and arranged and attended a meeting to assist with establishing guardianship.

“This list is not at all-inclusive! I simply do not have room to itemize all that she has done. San has become a friend to someone who desperately needed one. She has given help without any expectation of return. She has performed difficult, time-consuming tasks with love and without any judgement. She has truly been a guardian angel and she is extremely deserving of this award. San has saved a life from loneliness. She has helped prevent an unsafe situation. She has encouraged and inspired me and others to continue to spread light and love!”
