Check Out Our October Employees of the Month

Read Time: 17 mins

It’s a significant honor to be named a Kettering Health Employee of the Month, and we’re excited to highlight those who were awarded the distinction for the month of October.

Employee of the Month recognizes the people you love to work with. The winners exhibit Kettering Health’s Standards of Behavior, live out our values, and demonstrate the healing presence practices outlined in Called to Care.

Below are photos and descriptions of why these 12 Kettering Health team members were recognized as October Employees of the Month.

Congratulations to each and every one of you–keep up the great work!

Meagan Brown – Kettering Network Services

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being innovative and collaborative in her work

“Meagan is always looking for opportunities to lend her knowledge and problem-solving skills to help make everyone’s job easier and more streamlined. She has worked closely with IS, anesthesia, and other providers in the network to initiate and implement standardized workflows for Pre-admission Testing. She is always answering any questions that anyone on our team has and will take the time to help them find the answer and/or solution. She is a master at multi-tasking and will always make time for anyone who needs assistance. She is the go-to for many members on our team and has taken the initiative to educate whenever the opportunity arises. She is dedicated to sharing information and teamwork. We are so blessed to have her.”

“Meagan is a dedicated employee who is always on-the-go. She is willing to visit other campuses to either teach employees or help when they are short staffed—without question. Meagan does such a great job of thinking about how to make various processes more efficient and effective for a better workflow. Meagan loves what she does, and her impact permeates through her entire team. She cares for each patient like her own and takes extra time to make sure they understand what is needed before every procedure. She is a great asset not only to the team, but for the network.”

“Proactively anticipates and willingly assists learning opportunities of team members in addition to her own duties. Innovative in organizing and updating OneNote information to facilitate flow optimization between Kettering Health facilities. Cheerfully and patiently assists team members, helping to grow the knowledge and abilities of others without ever making them feel less than.”

Amy Rolfes – Kettering Health Hamilton

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being caring and competent in her work

“Amy’s nomination for Employee of the Month has been long overdue. Since hiring on as a full-time team member, Amy has led the charge as a problem-solver, compassionate caregiver, and strong patient advocate. One recent patient encounter was particularly noteworthy. A patient was admitted following an orthopedic injury. The patient and family did not speak English. Amy took the time to fully evaluate and treat the patient, which included providing a full home exercise program in Spanish, since this patient was uninsured and unlikely to receive skilled services at discharge. The patient was also unable to obtain necessary durable medical equipment. Amy inquired and was able to provide this patient with a walker from our lost and found stash and provided a shower chair/bench. It is worth mentioning here that Amy has taken it upon herself to use personal funds to purchase new medical equipment when able to obtain at a reasonable price in the community, through auction sites, etc. We can pull from this stash to serve those who need the equipment for safe discharge but are unable to obtain with limited personal resources, lack of insurance coverage, etc. She advocated for this patient through and through, including for further rehab services in-house prior to discharge due to pain that was limiting functional performance post-operatively. This patient was ultimately discharged home, but I feel they were set up for success thanks to Amy’s efforts. All of this took a significant amount of time from her morning. This is one example of the work she is doing for all her patients! Amy’s willingness to go above and beyond sets a positive, altruistic tone for the department. She also serves on our department’s High 5 Committee, whose mission is to celebrate “team.” She is the first to share her candy stash, bring in donuts or sweets “just because,” and make an effort to celebrate team members’ personal and professional accomplishments. Amy has a hard-working personality, consistently picking up other shifts here or at Kettering Health Miamisburg. Her generosity in giving of hours that would otherwise be spent with family is both respected and appreciated.”

Louann Lee – Kettering Health Washington Township

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health value of being collaborative in her work

“Louann has continued to go above and beyond for her departments without complaint. She has come in and worked extra shifts beyond her scheduled hours and she has rearranged her scheduled vacation days to help the clinics that had low staffing multiple times this year. To help accommodate our departments, she has rearranged her personal and family appointments. Although it is an expectation of her role to float to other clinics when needed, she has always been willing to be flexible and change her schedule with little to no notice. She was a big help recently with training a new employee at a different location while the office supervisor was on a leave of absence. Louann’s willingness to be flexible and offer to fill in as needed has really helped to reduce the stress of the other office assistants. She is helping to foster employee engagement and is a leading example of what it means to be a team player.”

Taylor Mastin – Kettering Health Main Campus

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being collaborative and caring in her work

“Taylor always goes above and beyond. She’s an amazing team player and is always looking for what is best for the patient! She’s always upbeat and positive and will do anything that is asked of her. We work lots of hours in the operating room and take lots of calls. Recently, we had three emergencies at the same time and had already used all our call people. This was a late Sunday evening and we needed someone to keep us trauma-ready for the next emergency that may crash through our door. Taylor wasn’t on call, but when we reached out to her to ask for help, she was eating dinner with her family. We explained the situation and acknowledged that she wasn’t on call that day. Taylor immediately left her family and came in to help without hesitation. This is the Taylor that we all know. She is ready at all times and is truly an amazing asset to our team. This is why I’m nominating Taylor! Thank you, Taylor, for your amazing dedication to our team and patients. Taylor is always upbeat, positive, and caring. She’s an amazing nurse and cares deeply for our patients. She takes great pride in her work and always puts the patient first. She will help our team in a heartbeat. She has put the needs of our patients before her own family. Thank you, Taylor, for being you!”

Danielle McPeck – Kettering College

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being competent and trustworthy in her work

“Danielle is an Assistant Professor and fieldwork coordinator within the Doctoral of Occupational Therapy program. She has worked tirelessly to ensure our students have a fieldwork placement and have all the support they need to be successful in their clinicals. Due to COVID-19, she has not had a vacation since the pandemic began because so many fieldwork placements have been disrupted. Even though the workload is immense, she remains positive and leaves her door open so all students have access to her as needed. She also emails them and contacts them very quickly night or day when they are having any issues whether that be due to their clinicals or in their personal lives. Our students continuously tell me how much they appreciate her and all the guidance she provides to them. Not only does she support our students beyond the call of duty she also supports our faculty. As I was transitioning to a new administrative role within our program, Danielle provided support and guidance whenever I needed help. I have learned so much from her and she readily shares her knowledge and time with me. I am so grateful to work with Danielle. We are blessed to have her in our department because she is the epitome of getting the job done! Not even the pandemic could stop her. The students know she is on their team, ensuring they have a place to allow them to grow as a clinician. Danielle also provides balance in our department. I can count on her to be neutral until she hears the facts. Honestly, she’s just easy-going and fun. She is a spectacular human being. Kettering College is a much better place because of Dr. Danielle McPeck!”

Megan Hart – Kettering Physician Network

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being caring and competent in her work

“I can’t thank Megan enough for her help in a critical situation I faced. I had a procedure that went great. I was sent home but needed further treatment, so I went to the ED as instructed. During my ED visit, I was slumped over in tears and called Megan for help, as she was the doctor’s nurse that performed my procedure. She immediately contacted the doctor and went an extra mile by contacting the ED on my behalf. I truly believe Megan saved my life. Even when scheduling the procedure and going over instructions, Megan eased my worries and was so informative. Megan and Dr. Strauchon were so awesome and kind to me! Great staff all around! Megan saved my life and helped to prevent any further issues I would’ve experienced! She is a great example of Kettering Health’s mission!”

“Megan is an awesome team player who consistently goes over and above to make sure that the clinical team runs smoothly. It is important to her that the whole clinical team works together and that no one feels overwhelmed. That is why it is nothing out of the normal to see her automatically jump in and help her co-workers room patients/order and run urines, without ever needing to be asked. With her being our only clinical LPN, she is typically the go-to for questions or instructions on procedures. Megan strives to not only know how to do something, but also why it’s done that way. She has an exemplary skill set that is enhanced by her positive, bubbly personality. Megan is always smiling and looking for the positive. Best of all, Megan is incredibly humble.  She is a great asset to our office!”

Shane Rieke – Kettering Health Miamisburg

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being trustworthy and competent in his work

“Shane went above and beyond his job description for the benefit of patient and staff safety. There was a situation of an unruly patient in the ED requiring restraint from two security staff members. The patient continued to demonstrate unsafe behavior as staff were attempting to de-escalate the situation. Shane, without hesitation, offered his help to the security guard staff who welcomed his assistance. With Shane’s help, the nursing staff were able to successfully administer the medications needed and the patient situation ended in ultimate resolve of safety and no harm for all individuals involved. Shane’s actions demonstrated a genuine care for patient and staff safety. His instinct to help aided in a positive outcome of the situation. He went above and beyond his role and expectation as a Kettering Health employee in this situation as well as continuing to be a great asset and team member of the therapy department. I personally am grateful for the quick response, teamwork, collaboration, and safety protocols Shane demonstrated to keep Kettering Health Miamisburg a safe and enjoyable place to work.”

Holly Buening – Kettering Health Greene Memorial

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being caring and collaborative in her work

“Just being a new graduate and stepping into her role, she has already mastered many of the values of this system. Stepping up and helping her co-workers shows how caring she truly is. She has already created a trustworthy connection to all departments and truly shows the patients that she cares and is willing to help them in any way they need. Holly takes time out of her day to transport, clean, and stock not only her own areas but other departments within the hospital. Constantly thinking of others before herself.”

“The belt for the tray line had been down for months. The carts were backed up to seven-long and in everyone’s way. The person unloading the carts was having a bad day physically. Holly stopped and took time to clear all the dishes and then stack them so that person only had to clear the top off and move the carts out. That one kind gesture made not just his day better, but it made everyone’s day by getting the carts re-routed and out of the way. Thank you, Holly!”

Sierra Smith – Soin Medical Center

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being caring in her work

“I had taken my mother into the ED at Soin due to a fall at home at a time when the ED was extremely full. She was taken back fairly quick due to a wrist break. Sierra was my mom’s nurse that afternoon and I was already nervous about how the nurse would be that day due to a bad experience there myself. Sierra walked in and showed my mom so much compassion and empathy during the whole visit. It takes a special person to do her job and she definitely is that. We couldn’t have asked for a better nurse. She is an asset to this organization. Sierra just has a sweet soul. She shows compassion and empathy to her patients. She has a calming effect and makes her patients feel like they matter.”

“Sierra is amazing. She is calm in storms, she keeps the team spirits high, and always smiles despite challenges in the ED. Her team loves to work with her and I enjoy seeing her because she always is happy, smiling, and upbeat!”

Rachael Munns – Kettering Health Behavioral Medical Center

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being caring and collaborative in her work

“Rachael’s bubbly personality is infectious!! Her chipper attitude is greatly appreciated to both staff and patients alike. Rachael goes out of her way to make sure the needs of her patients are met. She does it with a can-do attitude and smile as well. Patients and staff alike are happy when she is around. She is an amazing co-worker and person as well. Rachael proves this is not just a job, it’s a career and a joy and passion. She is a team player.”

“Rachael is always in a good mood and it shows. She makes her patients and staff feel welcome and supported. She is a team player and is always willing to go the extra mile. Rachael takes the time every day to check on each of her co-workers from each unit. Her bubbly personality makes everyone feel at peace and happy when she is around. Whenever a co-worker is having a bad day, she spends time making sure to reassure them.”

“Rachael is always so positive and cheerful. She is always willing to make sure every patient is cared for and that they feel safe, comfortable and happy. Even in trying or stressful times Rachael’s smile is infectious.  Her work ethic is also outstanding, and she is a great team player and co-worker. Rachael’s bubbly personality is always so welcoming and genuine. It is not an act – she makes sure that every day she is here she is on a mission to make people around her have a better day.”

Morgan Skinner – Kettering Health Dayton

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being competent and collaborative in her work

“She is great to the patients and helps out all the residents. She is extremely hard working and always has a great attitude. We recently lost some of our staff and she has taken on a double role and has not complained once. She is awesome! She is the glue that makes our clinic run. She is always smiling, and the patients love her. She helps out the residents and makes our lives so much better and easier.”

“She is very gracious and cordial with all patients she encounters. Not only does she go above and beyond the standard of care, but she also ensures patients are seen within a reasonable amount of time and are taken care of. She is also very helpful to the residents and physicians in the clinic, helping manage the schedules, day-to-day activities, directing attendings, and planning surgical schedules. She is truly a one-of-a-kind star. She encourages and promotes other front office staff members to work more diligently and empathetically. She is very efficient and good at her job but also kind. Being around her makes me want to be a better employee, health provider, and student.”

“As our clinic has yet to return to full staff, she has taken it upon herself to complete multiple roles including, but not limited to, front office staff (phones and checking people in), surgery scheduler, billing, and weekend call coverage. She always has the best attitude and goes above and beyond, including staying late to allow patients to be seen. Without Morgan, the ophthalmology residency clinic would not be functional. As we are the only clinic to see the many underserved, uninsured, or non-privately insured patients in the greater Dayton area, her work has provided eye care to many patients that would not be seen elsewhere.”

“Morgan works at the front desk of our clinic checking patients in, scheduling clinics, and scheduling surgeries. Recently, she picked up all the duties of office manager as well which involves the billing side as well as the 100 different nuances of the clinic. Throughout my three years here Morgan has consistently displayed a positive attitude that exudes to everyone else in the clinic, incredible patience dealing with patients who are not always so kind, and intangible leadership qualities that make her more than deserving of employee of the month. On overwhelming days in the clinic, we are all inspired by how Morgan handles the stress with composure and a smiling face.  In many ways, Morgan runs the Grandview Eye Clinic and we would not be the same place without her.”

Jackie Lauber – Kettering Health Troy

Recognized for living out our Kettering Health values of being trustworthy and caring in her work

“I admire the compassion and care that Jackie gives not only to patients, but also her co-workers. Jackie genuinely cares about every single person that she encounters. Recently, Jackie spent a lot of time at the bedside of an elderly patient that was anxious. This patient did not have any family or visitors during her stay in the emergency department.  Jackie spent a lot of time at the bedside holding the patient’s hand and talking to her. When it was time for this patient to be discharged, Jackie went out of her way to make several phone calls to ensure that the patient would get home safely.

Jackie’s birthday was recently. She spent the week giving gifts to others.  To celebrate her birthday, she wanted to celebrate by spending the week giving and not receiving. These are just two examples of the kindness and caring that Jackie displays to everyone, every single day.  In addition, Jackie is an extremely hard worker. She gives it her all every single day, no matter what the situation is. The combination of her compassion and work ethic makes Jackie a wonderful friend, co-worker, and caregiver.  Kettering Health is truly blessed to have Jackie represent the network.

Jackie has such a positive impact on everyone around her. Her positivity and compassion improves the department flow and patient outcomes in many ways. All her positive energy makes the department more productive and helps to counteract the occasional negative events that naturally happen in the emergency department. Her positivity and helpfulness often improve how the emergency department functions, which in turn allows for better patient outcomes. Jackie’s compassion and caring attitude often helps to ease emotional stress or pain that patients may be experiencing. The way that Jackie cares for and interacts with people boosts their overall well-being. I consider myself lucky to work side by side Jackie. I admire her and look at her as an excellent role model for everyone. I could go on and on about how Jackie is so deserving of being employee of the month.”
