Clarity Around CDC Maps and Mask Usage

This is to provide additional clarity to the email sent on Thursday, October 13, regarding masks.

There were questions related to the CDC maps.

The CDC has two different maps addressing different levels of data related to COVID and requisite mask usage:

  1. Community levels: This map is used by communities to guide mask usage in public places (ex: schools, churches, government buildings).This map (as of October 14) looks like this:

2. Community transmission: This map is used by healthcare facilities and their leaders to determine the need for masks in healthcare settings as directed by CMS.

Daily, we utilize the community transmission map (#2) to update our internal tracker that comes out at 9 p.m. (shown below, current on October 14). Masks are required only in facilities in counties that are red.
