Continuous Improvement Courses Now Available Through HealthStream

Read Time: 1 min

The Process Excellence team is now offering a new educational program, Improvement Science Fundamentals, to all employees through HealthStream.

This six-course curriculum provides an overview of the fundamental tools and concepts needed to drive continuous improvement. The full curriculum covers topics from Lean, Six Sigma, and Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) methodologies, with a step-by-step walkthrough of the FOCUS PDCA method. Employees can opt to complete specific courses or take all of them together for a certificate of completion. The full curriculum takes approximately three to four hours to complete and includes a final exam which participants must pass to receive the certificate. Please note, this curriculum does not qualify for continuing education credits.

Improvement Science Fundamentals is step one in the two-tiered approach of the FOCUS Improvement Strategy, which aims to infuse continuous improvement principles throughout the organization. The second phase is the flagship FOCUS Program, launching in Q1 of 2023. As an evolution of the previously offered CPEL program, FOCUS is a six-month, team-based training and coaching program with in-depth application of the FOCUS PDCA model, building upon the content in Improvement Science Fundamentals to improve real outcomes.

Employees interested in participating in the Improvement Science Fundamentals educational offering should navigate to HealthStream from the intranet. Leaders are highly encouraged to complete the full curriculum to best support our mission of continuous improvement.

If you have any questions about the new curriculum or the broader FOCUS Program, please contact Jill Waters, director of Process Excellence, at (937) 762-1650 or jill.waters@ketteringhealth.org.
