The award recognizes strong teams that come together to serve patients and each other. They demonstrate a calling to care, live the network’s values, and show exceptional performance as defined by the network’s Standards of Behavior. You can read their nomination story below:

The census was fairly low in the building, and as such, the amount of staff available to respond was limited. We had multiple high acuity patients, two of which were being monitored 1:1. And then it happened! All at once, we had a behavioral emergency on the youth unit, a seizure on the adult unit, and medics waiting at the back door to usher in a new admission.

Any one of these events by themselves would have been manageable, but the fact that they occurred simultaneously, made it seem impossible to navigate. With staff being stretched thin already, it appeared that we may be headed toward a negative outcome. However, everyone on shift worked together to allow staff to respond to the code while caring for the needs of the other patients and facilitating visitation.

Because they stepped up to help where and how they could, it moved forward seamlessly. Staff swapped in and out of roles to cover the front desk, monitor the patients on the units and visiting in the dining room, care for the seizing patient, get the new admission settled in, and intervene, de-escalate and support our teen in crisis.

I could not be more proud of the team’s ability to put their whole heart into this challenging situation in order to achieve a safe outcome.”
