Dragons Went Pink for Breast Cancer

Read Time: 1 min

Dayton Dragons and Kettering Health Network teamed up to go pink for breast cancer awareness. Before the August 24 game, people had a chance to get information on breast cancer, sign up for mammograms, and get a free pink rally towel to show support for breast cancer awareness. At the event, 24 people signed up for a mammogram and four have already scheduled to have theirs done.

Sharon Kershner, Oncology breast nurse navigator, threw out the first pitch as a way to recognize her years of service in assuring newly diagnosed breast cancer patients have an advocate throughout their breast cancer journey. She began her oncology nursing career 40 years ago and has worked at Kettering for the last 14 years.

Dragon’s players and staff wore pink wrist bands to show support of breast cancer awareness. All network signage and the PlayBall program were pink and highlighted digital mammograms.
