Final Challenge for Summer of Wellness: Mindfulness

Read Time: 1 min

Did you complete the July challenge of drinking more water? Don’t forget to send your tracker to knews@ketteringhealth.org!

It’s the last month of this year’s Summer of Wellness, and this month we want you to maintain a healthy mind. Dedicate 5-10 minutes to daily devotion or meditation, focusing on how many things you can be thankful for in your life.

It’s common to use physical activities to get fit, reduce stress, lose weight, etc. However, most of us are forgetting about exercising our brain.

“When your mind is swirling with responsibilities and worry, you take yourself to someplace else and your body is tense,” says Michelle Kolp, nursing professional development specialist at Kettering Behavioral Medicine Center. “When you practice gratitude, you are able to become more aware of the present. When this happens, you can fully enjoy the moment and the feelings of being overwhelmed will fade along with the tension.”

We all have the power to change our negative thoughts and emotions into positive ones, which will enable us to live a healthier life. Take time throughout August and challenge yourself to focusing on positive thoughts and improving your mental health.
