Employees and community members came together recently to celebrate and tour the upgraded emergency department.

“The emergency department has new state-of-the-art technology in tele-robotics, so every stroke patient has an expert at their bedside allowing Fort Hamilton Hospital to break new boundaries in healthcare models,” says Dr. Marcus Romanello, Fort Hamilton Emergency Department medical director.

Fort Hamilton opened their new, enhanced emergency department with a ribbon cutting ceremony for city and state officials, board members, and donors hosted by Fort Hamilton Foundation.

“The emergency department is our front door to our hospital and thus our community,” says Mark Smith, president of Fort Hamilton Hospital.

Fred Manchur, Kettering Health Network chief executive officer, thanked Fort Hamilton’s staff and leaders within the emergency department. “Bricks and mortar is one thing but when it comes down to it, [a hospital must have] the staff in the back rooms to take care of the patients,” says Fred Manchur.

The emergency staff has worked toward a 90/20 goal – a score of 90 or above for patient experience, and 20 minutes for door to doctor time. “In the past two years we have lowered the door to doctor time from over 40 minutes down to 10,” says Dr. Romanello.

The new emergency department features greater comfort for patients and visitors and better work flow for staff. Private rooms, on-site imaging, and a private area for behavioral health patients are just a few things that raise the bar on the level of care Fort Hamilton is now able to provide to patients who have a medical emergency.
