The DAISY Award is given to nurses who demonstrate clinical skill and compassionate care. It was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of a disease attacking the immune system (DAISY). His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided, so they established this award program.

You can read Kristin’s nomination story below:

“I have been in out of hospitals more times than I want, but there is no doubt that my visit last evening was the best I have ever been cared for by a nurse.  I want to let you know that your nurse Kristin Dix should be nominated for Angelhood!  She went out of her way to care for me, but more than that, she just cared.  I lost my wife a few years back and when I began talking about it, Kristin pulled up a stool, held my hand and even cried as I talked about my wife and how much I missed her.  I know nurses all care, that is what they do, but Kristin really cared.  I left there with such a good feeling inside that I just had to let someone know.”
