Guidance on COVID Vaccination for Employees and Providers Previously Infected with SARS-CoV-2

Read Time: 1 min

COVID-19 Vaccination is recommended for all Kettering Health Network employees and providers. A large percentage have completed or are in the process of receiving their vaccine series. This guidance is intended for Kettering Health Network employees and providers who have been infected with SARS-CoV-2. Because the duration of immunity following natural infection is unknown – the CDC recommends vaccination for this group.

Recommendations for those diagnosed with COVID-19 before the first dose. Two options are available:

  • Vaccination series immediately upon clinical recovery (if symptomatic) and once out of isolation. There may be a higher risk of significant side effects such as aches, fever, and chills with the first dose in this group.
  • Delaying vaccine for 90 days from the time of infection. This option is recommended for any individual who received COVID-19 convalescent plasma or monoclonal antibody therapy. The Ohio Department of Health is directing priority group 1A individuals to the health department at this time.

Recommendation for those who are diagnosed with COVID-19 after the first dose of vaccine:

  • The second dose can be given immediately upon clinical recovery (if symptomatic) and once out of isolation. The second dose may be delayed up to 60 days if necessary. The second dose should not be omitted.
