Holiday Pay in 2016

Read Time: 2 mins

Under the new PTO structure for 2016 (read more about that here)  the first paid holiday of 2016 will be January 1, New Year’s Day. The holiday pay for New Year’s Day will be reflected on the January 7 paycheck. PTO should still be entered by employees for the 2015 Christmas holiday.

In 2016 benefit eligible employees will receive the following hours of holiday pay per holiday:

  • Full time: 8 hours
  • Part time: 4 hours

In 2016, these six holidays will be paid:

  1. New Year’s Day
  2. Memorial Day
  3. Independence Day
  4. Labor Day
  5. Thanksgiving Day
  6. Christmas Day

Holiday pay is automatic and will be received whether the employee works or not. There is no action required in Time and Attendance. Holiday pay hours will not be included in the overtime calculation.

Hourly employees may choose to supplement their holiday pay with PTO up to their regularly scheduled shift hours, however this is not required. Any PTO for the New Year’s Day holiday must be entered through Time and Attendance prior to the end of the pay period. No PTO payroll corrections will be processed for New Year’s Day. Employees who are required to work on the holiday will receive both their worked hours and the automatic holiday pay hours.

As originally announced the 2016 accrual rate change will be effective on January 3, 2016 and will be reflected on the January 21, 2016 paycheck.

For hourly employees

Hourly employees who are working the holiday will receive applicable shift differential and holiday premium for all hours worked. Overtime will be paid for any qualifying hours. Hourly employees working the holiday will clock as normal.

For exempt employees

The automatic holiday pay hours will reduce exempt employees’ auto generated hours in Time and Attendance. Exempt employees who are required to work on the holiday must add a calendar entry in Time and Attendance in order to be paid for hours worked.

Please refer to the Time and Attendance intranet page under Tools for instructions.
