Important Information on Omicron Variant

Read Time: 1 min

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has become the dominant strain in Ohio. There may also be subtle differences in the symptoms between Omicron and Delta to be aware of:

  • Sore throat, nasal/sinus congestion, fatigue, headache, and muscle aches are common initial symptoms of Omicron.
  • There is a shorter incubation period with onset of symptoms—often within 2-3 days of exposure.
  • Fewer individuals lose their sense of taste and smell with Omicron.
  • Cough, fever, and shortness of breath remain common symptoms with the Omicron strain, particularly in unvaccinated individuals.

If you have these symptoms, it is important to get tested for COVID-19 as soon as possible. Click here for Kettering Health testing sites, or here for testing sites throughout Ohio.

The Omicron variant is much more contagious than prior strains and can spread quickly in a work setting. If you test positive, please contact Employee Health for instructions on returning to work.
