Kehinde Wiley is a painter, most famous for his portrait of Barack Obama, whose work often reimagines historically significant paintings with Black protagonists and subjects, such as Napoleon Leading the Army over the Alps, which reimagines Napoleon Crossing the Alps, with a Black man in modern clothing (including a bandana and Timberland boots) replacing Napoleon Bonaparte.
When President Obama selected Wiley to paint his portrait, Wiley became the first Black painter to paint an official presidential portrait.
