Congratulations to Kevin Wolf, who was named Fort Hamilton Hospital’s May Employee of the Month. Kevin works in rehabilitation medicine at the hospital.
The Employee of the Month Award recognizes the people you love to work with. These winners show exceptional performance as defined by the network’s Standards of Behavior, live out the network’s values, and demonstrate the healing presence practices outlined in Called to Care. Kevin was nominated by a fellow employee whose husband was a patient of Kevin’s, and you can read the nomination story below:
“In January, my 40-year-old healthy, active husband began experiencing right shoulder pain. Over the next few days, the shoulder pain progressed into significant weakness and numbness in his right arm and hand. After seeing his family physician and having an MRI of the neck, he was diagnosed iwth a herniated disk.
At his first therapy appointment, his weakness was so significant that he could barely raise his empty hand to his mouth. He was in so much pain and couldn’t get comfortable in any position. From day one, Kevin was his biggest encourager. He continued to tell my once very strong husband that he would recover. He thoroughly explained all steps to him and altered normal procedures to make him comfortable. His initial consultation was done standing because he couldn’t sit down. My husband was a pit of emotions: scared, embarrassed, and depressed. At this time, Kevin modeled the patient experience; he bonded with my husband, gained his trust, and assured his safety. Kevin’s name is now a normal name at our dinner table, even though we don’t really know him! His caring is genuine and not scripted. He is just being a good person and showing dedication to his profession.”
