LifeCare Hospitals to Open at Fort Hamilton

A long-term acute care service, LifeCare Hospitals, recently opened a 20-bed unit at Fort Hamilton. The facility will be located on the hospital’s 4-West nursing unit and utilizes a portion of the 5-West unit for support services and offices.

LifeCare operates 24 hospitals in nine states, including a 44-bed unit at Sycamore. The company’s freestanding and “hospital-in-hospital” units are designed for medically complex patients who require acute care hospital services for an extended period of time.

“The addition of LifeCare closes the loop on caring for patients in the community who need long-term acute care; now we can keep it local,” says Richard Sternberg, DO in a recent Health Connections article. “This will improve patient satisfaction by providing complete care from early illness to recovery, all under one roof.”

According to Pete King, Fort Hamilton vice president of finance and operations, the addition of LifeCare will give Hamilton and all of Butler County a first-class facility for patients with conditions such as respiratory failure, serious wounds that require daily treatment, and patients with any chronic disease, including congestive heart failure and COPD. “Our arrangement with LifeCare will provide a level of inpatient care for patients with long-term acute care needs that currently are not available in Butler County,” says King in a recent Health Connections article.
