Michelle Hern and Kinsey Fox, ICU, Greene Memorial

The Constellation Award recognizes a team or a group of “network stars.” Michelle Hern and Lindsey Fox from ICU received Greene Memorial’s March Constellation Award.

Michelle Hern and her co-worker, Kinsey Fox, cared for a patient newly diagnosed with Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). Together they were discussing the patient’s symptoms and medications when they noticed a medication that neither of them had ever heard of. Upon doing research, Kinsey found that this medication had a severe side effect, and it may cause high blood sugars and possible Diabetic coma. She immediately called Michelle and told her about her discovery. They agreed that they needed to get word to the doctor immediately. Michelle called the nursing supervisor and asked her to please inform the doctor about the side effects of this medication. The doctor was notified and the medication was stopped.
