Read Time: 2 mins

Congratulations to Michele Smith, who was named Kettering Behavioral Medicine Center’s March Employee of the Month! Michele works in Adolescent Psych at the hospital.

The Employee of the Month Award recognizes the people you love to work with. These winners show exceptional performance as defined by the network’s Standards of Behavior, live out the network’s values, and demonstrate the healing presence practices outlined in Called to Care. Michele was nominated by a fellow employee, and you can read the nomination story below:

“Some people were just born to be in this field, and Michele Smith is one of those people. Today was her third 12-hour shift in a row, and this was a challenging group of adolescents. A code violet was called and Michele was on the front lines ready to help. Michele was extremely patient, exhausted numerous calming techniques for this patient, and avoided a restraint situation at every mean possible. As the code progressed, Michele even thought to contact the patient’s parents to figure out ways to calm him and to keep them updated on his condition. During visiting hours, the parents of the child were extremely emotional and tearful. Michele held the mother as she sobbed, stating that she just wanted her son back. Michele became misty eyed, and the mother stated that Michele’s rawness was how she knew her son was ‘more than just another number’ at our facility. She took time to speak to the family and comfort them in their time of fear and uncertainty. Michele is a true asset to our Kettering Behavioral Medicine Center family as well as the field of nursing.”
