The CDC has revised its recommendations for isolation for a positive COVID-19 test. This science-based change was made because SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted mostly in the one-to-two days before symptoms begin until two-to-three days after symptoms began.
If someone shows symptoms of COVID-19 with or without known exposure:
- Leader removes employee from work and employee notifies Employee Health of illness.
- Employee Health to order PCR test (with results in 24 hours), and Employee Health to track and determine return-to-work date and communicate with line leaders.
- If PCR test is negative, employee may return to work (if fever-free for 24 hours) with constant wearing of PPE, social distancing, and hand hygiene.
- If PCR test is positive, employee will remain at home for five days following onset of symptoms or a positive test—whichever is first. Employee may return to work (if fever-free for 24 hours) after initial five days, and constantly wear a mask for an additional five days.
