Norm Spence currently serves as director of Strategy & Operations for Kettering Health Middletown. Since joining the system in 2011, Norm has served in various roles in Finance and Business Development, including most recently as director of Business Development for the Kettering Health Main Campus system.

A graduate of Andrews University, Norm received both his bachelor’s degree in Business Management and then his MBA before joining Kettering Health. In 2020 Norm was honored as one of Dayton Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40,” which he says is not just a reflection of his work, but Kettering Health’s ethos of dedication to all those we serve, all the time—in our medical centers, and in our communities.

“Our work doesn’t just stop when we clock out,” Norm shared. “We have an opportunity to truly impact the lives in our community through involvement. Working in healthcare we get the opportunity to impact all those who are in need.”

His career advice is to not just think about growing “vertically, horizontally as well.” “Understand what true growth looks like for you in your career. We often characterize growth with ‘promotion’ or ‘job title.’ You can grow horizontally as well as vertically. Vertical growth is moving up the chain, but horizontal growth is developing depth through experience, and honing your skills and craft. Don’t forget about your horizontal growth.”
