Patient Letters June 2018

The letter below was sent from a patient:

I was discharged from Kettering Radiation Department after 33-day treatment for lung cancer. My doctor, Matthew Knecht, MD, did such an outstanding job of caring for me and I want to acknowledge him. His care kept one of the scariest times of my life easier. He clearly described the plan and kept my husband and me up to date,  answering our questions in words we could understand. Using the computer images, he showed us what was happening to my tumors, which helped so much. His knowledge of the treatment of my kind of cancer gave me confidence. During this time, he respected my religious need for prayer. We are very grateful to him and the whole department.

Sincerely,

Julia M. Keller

It is my honor to express how grateful I am for the loving and kind experience I encountered during my radiation treatment through Dr. Ronald Hale’s office. Each day the receptionist, Tammy, greeted my husband and me with a big smile and a personal comment, as well as concern for our situation. What a great way to start my daily treatment!

Dr. Hale, Jessie, and the therapists, Karah, Holly, Cindy, and Patrick, expressed interest, care, and especially patience, at times when I felt vulnerable, uncertain, and out of control. The therapists offered constant, daily support and hugs without a feeling of being rushed. I felt so at home and comfortable.

Dr. Hale and his physician assistant, Karen, both met with me weekly to check on my progress and answer questions about my treatment, my individual reactions to the treatments, and the best way to solve any problems I encountered. They were both so kind and knowledgeable. At the main hospital, Dr. Kudithipudi, his nurse, Jill, and Thomas, his radiation therapist and the rest of the staff continued the caring and attentive concern that the team members at the Cancer Center showed me. I was very well informed in advance as to all aspects of my radiation. They updated me continually. I was never rushed or felt like a burden or problem. They caused me to feel like we were all in a partnership, attacking my cancer.

I was told to call at any time, for any reason, with any concern, or I could drop in on Tuesday, “doctor day,” to ask questions personally. That was most comforting! It is so great to have this outstanding service available; right here in Kettering. I feel truly lucky and blessed to have doctors and staff who are full of compassion and insights while focusing as well on a possible cancer cure for the future.

Thank you for such an outstanding opportunity at Kettering Cancer Center. You must be very proud of this amazing group.

Sincerely,

Beth N. Conaway

The letter below was sent from the husband of a patient:

In February, my wife Penny was diagnosed with cancer. She was referred to Kettering (always our preferred choice) and is being treated by Dr. Lavelle, Dr. Kudithipudi and the team of cancer professionals at Kettering Memorial and the Kettering Cancer Center.

Fortunately, Penny’s cancer was caught early, and her prognosis is excellent. After radiation therapy, she is now on an oral chemotherapy medication. None of this is or was easy, but the treatment options available today are exponentially better than just five years ago.

Just wanted you to know that the entire team handling Penny’s care is top notch. Penny feels like she is their only patient. We have always appreciated the experience of healthcare at Kettering. Your cancer staff at KCC is the best, and we are truly thankful they are the team treating Penny.
