Due to the high demand of COVID-19 convalescent plasma, the Community Blood Center has begun shipping imported units to Kettering Health Network laboratories for transfusions. The new product has not yet been built in the system, as we are currently still acquiring the needed information. At this time, all units with the new product code will need to be transfused using downtime procedures.
- Order entry as usual.
- Lab will be able to see order and will call unit once ready for pick-up.
- Need to take paper order req to blood back to pick up product.
- Once in blood bank, manual check will occur with hand written form.
- Nurse will be unable to bar code scan product and will need to override “not matched patient” warning and use dual verification before administration.
