On Friday, February 22, Sycamore Rehab held a continuing education event called Decrypting Dysphagia
Treatment and Assessment: What You Didn’t Learn in Dysphagia 101.

Dysphagia is the medical term for swallowing difficulties. Some people with dysphagia have problems swallowing
certain foods or liquids, while others can’t swallow at all. Dysphagia has many causes—physical (anatomical)
obstruction to the passage of food; functional abnormalities in the nerves of the brain, throat, and esophagus where normal function is necessary for swallowing; or abnormalities of the muscles of the throat and esophagus.

Lindsay Douglas, MS, CCC-SLP, presented and Darla Torkelsen, MS, CCC-SLP, the founder and CEO of Video Continuing Education, LLC, sponsored the event. Professionals who attended gave feedback that the course was “really well presented and quite helpful.”
