Due to the increased risk of aerolized virus, nebulized respiratory treatments should not be used for COVID-19 patients. Metered dose inhalers (MDIs) should be utilized instead.
When using MDIs for COVID-19 patients, the inhaler must be secured in a locked container in the patient’s room, and it is for single patient use. This inhaler must be discarded when the patient leaves the hospital.
