Russ Wetherell: A Retirement Celebration

Read Time: 2 mins

On May 18, Grandview Medical Center celebrated the wonderful career of Russ Wetherell. Dozens of people gathered in the Grandview Auditorium to say their goodbyes to a beloved leader and friend.

The retirement festivities were Super Bowl-themed, and the audience was equipped with rally towels and pom-poms. Russ had been with Kettering Health Network for over 20 years, and he served in many roles including:

  • Executive Director and COO of Kettering Medical Center Physicians, Inc.
  • Vice President of Finance/Operations and CFO of Grandview Medical Center
  • Chief Financial Officer of Kettering Health Network
  • President of Southview Medical Center
  • President of Grandview Medical Center

Russ entered into retirement in style with a tribute containing a myriad of childhood photos and fond memories. He was visibly nostalgic as photos from his past flickered across the screen, all the while still providing context for the audience. When Russ was asked, “What was your greatest achievement as president?” He responded humbly by saying that he’s proud that he was able to maintain the great culture of Grandview Medical Center.

To conclude a wonderful ceremony, Grandview sent Russ home with an engraved replica of the Vince Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy, a custom made Tom Brady Jersey with “Wetherell” on the back, and a laptop.

Russ had an expansive career dedicated to improving the quality of life of the people in his community, all while supporting and nurturing the people around him. He is succeeded by Rebecca Lewis, who previously served as president of Southview Medical Center. The CEO of Kettering Health Network, Fred Manchur, had this to say about her transition:

“We are very pleased to have Becky bring her strengths and leadership to Grandview. Becky has more than 40 years of healthcare experience, with key strengths in medical staff relations, employee relations, operations, and service line growth. She possesses great enthusiasm for her work, the network’s mission, and our employee culture.”
