Southview February Employee of the Month – Vicky Lopez

Read Time: 2 mins

Congratulations to Vicky Lopez, who was named Southview Medical Center’s Employee of the Month for February! Vicky works in the Pharmacy Infusion Center.

The Employee of the Month Award recognizes the people you love to work with. These winners show exceptional performance as defined by the network’s Standards of Behavior, live out the network’s values, and demonstrate the healing presence practices outlined in Called to Care. Vicky was nominated by a fellow employee, and you can read the nomination story below:

“I have worked with Vicky for almost a year, both at Grandview Inpatient Pharmacy and now at Southview Infusion Center. While she always has had a very outgoing and friendly personality, I really got to know how great of an employee and person she is while working with her at the infusion center.

At Southview, Vicky wears a lot of different hats. She primarily functions as our ‘insurance specialist’ within the infusion center. This job can be very detail-oriented and can be an exhaustive process. Vicky’s thoroughness and passion for promoting each patient’s experience makes her a professional at this job title. She will invest a lot of time in ensuring that all financial issues and prior authorizations are approved before the patient is scheduled for his or her infusion.

While this is a job all on its own, you may find her helping out in many other regards. You’ll often see her greeting patients and scheduling their appointments, transporting lab and food trays to/from Southview Main, helping the pharmacist by preparing medications, stocking supplies/medications in the pharmacy, sitting down and talking with patients, and supporting her co-workers in many other ways. While these are all examples of how Vicky goes over and beyond her job responsibilities, there was one specific instance a few months ago that exemplifies Vicky’s character.

A patient had arrived for an infusion, but for some reason there was a miscommunication on its delivery to our pharmacy. This medication was scheduled to be infused over several hours. After talking with Kettering Specialty pharmacy, it was discussed that it could be delivered over to Southview Infusion Center, but the delivery could take up to 2-3 hours. Due to scheduling constraints, this would mean the patient would have to be rescheduled for next week. Lucky for us, Vicky heard about this situation.

Without hesitation, she volunteered to drive over herself from Southview to Kettering to pick up this medication on behalf of the patient. The patient was very much relieved, the medication was administered that day, and we were all grateful to have a co-worker like Vicky who goes over and beyond for everyone. I know that Vicky meets all the standards to qualify herself as a Network star. She is a caring, dedicated, and trustworthy employee. She is a role model to everyone on our infusion team and we are so lucky to have her.”
