Southview’s August DAISY Award Winner – James Owens

Read Time: 1 min

Congratulations to James Owens, RN, a nurse on ICU at Southview Medical Center, for winning the hospital’s August DAISY Award!

The DAISY Award is given to nurses who demonstrate clinical skill and compassionate care. It was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of a disease attacking the immune system (DAISY). His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided, so they established this award program. James was nominated by a patient, and you can read the story below:

“James is a real winner. He took care of my husband who was in ICU for many days. He would check on him all the time and answer any questions we had. Was so gentle when he had to move my husband as he was in severe pain. Always asking if I needed anything. James may be new, but he is very knowledgeable and enjoys his work. A very dedicated person and wanting to learn everything. He even came in to check on us after his shift was up. Who does that anymore? If would like to have him as a personal nurse. He made my husband feel so at ease when things were not looking so good. James deserves this reward as he is one of the best. A real winner. Thank you, James, for all your kindness and help.”
