Congratulations to Southview Medical Center’s August DAISY Award winner: Peggy Hickman from Medical Surgical!
The DAISY Award is given to nurses who demonstrate clinical skill and compassionate care. It was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of a disease attacking the immune system (DAISY). His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided, so they established this award program.
Peggy was nominated by a patient at Southview, and you can read her nomination story below:
“During our stay, Peggy cared for us a couple of times. I tend to have a stubborn streak in me, and I loved how Peggy dealt with that. Although we had only met her, by the end of our stay she almost felt like an addition to the family. She made absolutely sure that I knew at all times that she was by my side. She was reassuring, encouraging, and ‘lovingly stern’ when she needed to be. She put my entire family to complete ease when she was around. Peggy is four weeks away from having her first child. During my stay I had an issue that needed attention. Peggy RAN down the hall to tend to me and let me know she was right there! It blew me away! We are so grateful for her outstanding care! Thank you!”
