Southview’s July DAISY Award Winner – Chantell Weglage

Read Time: 1 min

Congratulations to Chantell Weglage, RN, a nurse on Med Surg at Southview Medical Center, for winning the hospital’s July DAISY Award!

The DAISY Award is given to nurses who demonstrate clinical skill and compassionate care. It was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of a disease attacking the immune system (DAISY). His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided, so they established this award program. You can read Chantell’s nomination story below:

“Chantell gave me the best care and companionship I have ever had during any of my hospital visits. I’m a frequent patient but usually go to MVH.  I was in the hospital on my 9-year anniversary, but my husband couldn’t come visit. I was sad and the next day she brought me a box of different teas to try. It made me feel really special and loved. We also shared our heart-wrenching stories of her mom passing and my great granny’s passing.  We both were crying and hugging. It was a great experience all and all. She also kept referring to me as one of her daughters and it truly made me feel more at home than I’ve ever felt during a hospital stay. Thank you, Chantell!”
