Stick It to the Flu: Get Your Flu Shot

Read Time: 1 min

Help Kettering Health Network stick it to the flu by getting your flu shot. As a healthcare organization, it’s our responsibility to protect our communities from getting sick, which includes preventing the spread of flu. Getting a flu shot is the best way to prevent the flu, and the vaccine is required for all Kettering Health Network employees and volunteers. Flu shots will be available during free employee flu clinics October 2-27. Campus schedules are on the Employee Health intranet page, under the HR tab.

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions:

Is the vaccine safe?

Flu vaccines are among the safest medical products in use. They are the best way to reduce your chances of getting the flu and spreading it to others. Like any medical product, the flu vaccine can cause side effects. According to the CDC, the most common side effect is soreness or redness where the shot was given. These, and other mild side effects, typically go away on their own within a few days.

Can the vaccine cause the flu?

Flu shots contain dead viruses that do not make you sick. It takes about two weeks to develop full immunity after receiving the vaccine, so it is possible to get the flu right after you get the shot.

How do I obtain a medical or religious exemption for the flu shot?

If you qualify for a meical or religious exemption, please fill out the exemption forms before October 1. These can be found in your campus Employee Health office or on the Employee Health intranet page.
