Surgery Consolidation Updates

Read Time: 1 min

Due to ongoing concerns about coronavirus (COVID-19), we are consolidating operating rooms in addition to the previous changes to elective procedures.

State-mandated criteria for the procedures will be:

  • Threat to patient’s life if surgery is not performed
  • Threat of permanent dysfunction of an extremity or organ system
  • Risk of metastasis or progression of staging
  • Risk of rapidly worsening to severe symptoms (time sensitivity)

Effective Wednesday, March 25 at 7 a.m., the following changes will be made related to surgical volume within Kettering Health Network.

All essential and emergent surgical cases will be performed at the following locations:

  • Kettering Medical Center
  • Grandview Medical Center
  • Indu and Raj Soin Medical Center
  • Fort Hamilton Hospital
  • Troy Hospital
    • Emergent cases at Troy Hospital will be transferred to Grandview Medical Center.

GI cases will be performed only at the following locations:

  • Kettering Medical Center
  • Grandview Medical Center
  • Fort Hamilton Hospital

Pain cases will be performed at Sycamore Medical Center

In general, procedures scheduled at Greene Memorial Hospital will be done at Soin Medical Center, procedures scheduled at Southview Medical Center will be done at Grandview Medical Center, and procedures scheduled at Sycamore Medical Center will be done at Kettering Medical Center.  Chief medical officers will be assisting with any needed credentials for physicians.

All perioperative areas that support procedures in the locations noted will be operational, including the Pre-admission Testing pre-evaluation clinic, pre- and postoperative care areas, and Central Sterilization.  Central Sterilization staff will be available at Sycamore Medical Center and Southview Medical Center to provide support to the inpatient units.

Surgery scheduling will be consolidated to a single site at Cornerstone Health Center.
