Read Time: 2 mins

Congratulations to Susan “Suzzie” McGarry, who was named Kettering Medical Center’s June Employee of the Month. Susan works in NeuroRehab & Balance at the hospital.

The Employee of the Month Award recognizes the people you love to work with. These winners show exceptional performance as defined by the network’s Standards of Behavior, live out the network’s values, and demonstrate the healing presence practices outlined in Called to Care. Susan was nominated by a fellow employee, and you can read the nomination story below:

“Susie puts her whole heart and soul into the treatment of every patient she sees. She truly lives out the core values of the network. She is highly competent in her field treating complex neurological patients. She has served as my clinical mentor over the last seven years. She has taught me through her actions true collaboration and innovation in treatment interventions and bracing for stroke patients in order to achieve the ultimate goal: improving the quality of life.

Most recently Susie has been treating a chronic stroke patient who has impairments that affect her gait and severely limit her quality of life. This patient has been seen by numerous PTs in the Dayton and Cincinnati region over the past five years. More than five different ankle-foot orthotics have been fabricated and used without success. The patient remained very debilitated and isolated. When Susie started seeing her she carefully created an orthotic and shoe modification that she felt would properly serve this patient. The orthotist felt it could not be done, the insurance company said no to further braces, and the financial means for this patient were limited. Susie wouldn’t take no for an answer. She personally went to the orthopedic appointment to walk through the casting and fabrication process. She found shoes for the patient and fought hard to make the orthotic a reality. She succeeded! The patient was hardworking and Susie was devoted to improving her quality of life against all odds. Because of Susie’s dedication to living the mission and core values of the network, this patient’s gait is more functional, her social interaction is improving, and she now has an instilled sense of hope for the future and her functional mobility goals. Thank you Susie for your constant passion for serving others.”
