Read Time: 1 min

Truven Health Analytics, part of the IBM Watson Health business, has named Sycamore Medical Center as one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals. Truven Health Analytics is a leading provider of information, analytic tools, and related expertise to the healthcare industry to improve quality, efficiency, and outcomes.

Sycamore is the only hospital in the Greater Dayton area to achieve this designation. This is the 8th time the hospital has received the award.

“We are extremely honored to receive this distinction for the 8th time,” says Wally Sackett, president of Sycamore Medical Center. “This award acknowledges our focus on delivering exceptional quality care to each patient. We will continue to promote high quality and safety goals throughout our hospital.”

The study shows that if all hospitals in the US performed at the level of Sycamore and other winning hospitals:

  • Nearly 89,000 additional lives could be saved
  • More than 61,000 additional patients could be complication free
  • More than $5.6 billion in inpatient costs could be saved
  • The average patient stay would decrease by half a day
  • More than 300,000 fewer discharged patients would be readmitted within 30 days
  • Patients would spend nine minutes less in hospital emergency departments per visit

The Truven Health 100 Top Hospitals is the most comprehensive, academically driven study of its kind. It uses a validated, national balanced scorecard that evaluates hospitals on measures of patient care and satisfaction, operational efficiency, and financial stability. The study has been conducted annually since 1993.
