Congratulations to the Plant Operations, Contractors, and Telecomm team at Fort Hamilton Hospital, who was recognized with a Constellation award in July. They were nominated by Dave Davenport in Employee Benefits. In the midst of experiencing some major health issues, Dave was renovating his home. Dave writes:
“I went to work on a Wednesday or Thursday after Christmas, and I felt so bad. My head ached severely and my left eye watered, and the left side of my neck was swollen. Donald [from Plant Operations] asked me that morning if I felt bad and I told him that I did. He said to come on and lets go to emergency room and let the doctor check me. I was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer on March 22, 2018. I planned to retire March 31, 2018.
I kept Donald in the loop regarding my health issues. He told me not to worry about what I had left in my renovation project. Donald had a plan. He had volunteers and donations to get the work completed.
A few days later I received a call from Donald that his department and contractors were going to start the project on April 13. They finished the toe kick around the kitchen cabinets, installed a ceiling fan, installed a new floor in the dining room, installed a walk-in shower in the bathroom, updated the electric in the dining room and bathroom, brought in drywall, hung it and painted it, installed a new vanity and light in the bathroom, installed a new hot water heater in the basement, hauled away garbage in the back yard, hung closet doors, gave me a large donation of money, and installed a light fixture in the kitchen.
Donald and his team went above and beyond the call of duty. They did a great community service that we are reminded of every time we walk through the house. We appreciate the people who helped make our renovation project come to life. Thanks to Donald and everyone who participated in this project!”
