Congratulations to Dennis Walker, who was named Fort Hamilton Hospital’s October Employee of the Month! Dennis works in Rehabilitation Medicine at the hospital.
The Employee of the Month Award recognizes the people you love to work with. These winners show exceptional performance as defined by the network’s Standards of Behavior, live out the network’s values, and demonstrate the healing presence practices outlined in Called to Care. Dennis was nominated by a fellow employee, and you can read the nomination story below:
“Dennis exemplifies ‘Called to Care.’ He routinely goes out of his way at the end of his physical therapy treatment sessions to make sure the patient is comfortable, whether it be getting a warm blanket, taking the extra time to find a recliner chair, offering the patient and family beverages, etc. This caring nature also applies to the care he provides during his treatment sessions. Dennis treated a patient who was very swollen and debilitated but wanted more than anything to get out of bed and get fresh air outside. Dennis took it upon himself to work with nursing to coordinate the trip with his infusions and to notify telemetry, gather the supplies needed, and coordinate with myself as the treating occupational therapist to assist with the session. The patient was pleased as punch to get to go outside of the main entrance then around back to the garden and fountain area of the hospital, all the while sharing stories about himself. Though we eventually had to return this patient to his room, his spirits were lifted and he was motivated to continue activity with occupational therapy: washing his face, brushing his teeth, and continuing to sit up in the chair for awhile longer. Dennis really went the extra mile for this patient, and it was much appreciated by the patient as well as myself.”
