Sycamore MRI recently received the American College of Radiology Accreditation for performing breast exams. Sycamore is currently the only MRI in the network with this accreditation. American College of Radiology Accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging and is proven to provide the highest level of image quality and safety by documenting that the facility meets requirements for equipment, medical personnel, and quality assurance.
MRI is a non-invasive imaging technique that does not involve exposure to ionizing radiation and has proven valuable in detecting and staging breast cancer. Breast MRI is usually performed for
one of three reasons:
• To identify early breast cancer in women with a high risk of breast cancer, e.g., a past history of breast cancer in a young woman, a strong family history of breast cancer, or known genetic mutation (a hereditary characteristic that predisposes a woman to breast cancer)
• To determine the extent of breast cancer that has already been diagnosed on mammography or ultrasound followed by a biopsy (the removal of a sample of tissue for testing)
• Least often, it is performed to determine whether an artificial breast implant in one or both breasts is intact.
Sycamore MRI performed 800 breast MRIs over the past year. All Sycamore technologists are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. To schedule an appointment, contact Kettering Health Network Central Scheduling at (937) 384-3888.
