Congratulations to DeAnn Gallatin, Kay Finch, Krista Bensman, Marilyn Reed, and Annie Liberio who were recognized for receiving the constellation award in December for their amazing teamwork.

The award recognizes strong teams that come together to serve patients and each other. They demonstrate a calling to care, live the network’s values, and show exceptional performance as defined by the network’s Standards of Behavior. You can read their nomination story below:

“DeAnn, Kay, Krista, and Marilyn initiated and developed a support group to specifically support the emotional needs of children with a parent or care giver who has cancer called CLIMB. Last year the four of them went to a training class and afterwards started the CLIMB program at the Kettering Cancer Center. This is an interdisciplinary effort between both the oncology and brain and spine service lines.  The idea of developing the CLIMB program at KHN was born of seeing the emotional needs of children whose parents are going through cancer.

The program started in 2019 and since then 12 children have come to one of two sessions. The plan is to grow the program and have a session every quarter. Marilyn Reed comments that ‘it is one of the most rewarding programs I have been part of.’  Many children hide their feelings from their parents because they don’t want to make them sad or that they may ‘catch’ cancer. The CLIMB program, led by these four ladies, is a safe place for children to talk about their feelings and be educated about cancer. The overall goal of the program is to help kids be able to talk with their parents about cancer.”
