Grandview’s October DAISY Award Winner – Susanne Swisher

Read Time: 1 min

Congratulations to Susanne Swisher for winning Grandview Medical Center’s October DAISY Award. Susanne works in the Emergency Department at the hospital.

The DAISY Award is given to nurses who demonstrate clinical skill and compassionate care. It was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of a disease attacking the immune system (DAISY). His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided, so they established this award program. You can read Susanne’s nomination story below:

“Out of every medical professional I’ve encountered, they don’t even begin to compare to the sincere sympathy and compassion that I was shown by nurse Susanne. I was very embarrassed to be in the Emergency Department on an overdose. Many people in the medical field sometimes tend to look at me in a judgmental way even if they don’t realize it. Never once did my nurse do that. As she talked to me I could see the genuine concern for me in her eyes. I’m almost positive she has brought all the people in her daily path much peace. I am very thankful that she was put in my path today. I would love her to be recognized for going WAY above and beyond her ‘normal’ nursing duties. Grandview is a much better place with her here.”
